Your First Visit
Nothing here will be a surprise.
A new building, new faces and a new routine is a lot to ask of a child. Look through this together at home, as many times as you like, so that the first visit is already familiar.
1You arrive at 6642 Phelan Blvd
There is parking directly outside. The front door is on the ground floor. No stairs, no lift.
2You check in at the front desk
Someone will greet you by name. You will be asked for your child's name and date of birth. Nothing more complicated than that.
3You wait in the waiting area
There are seats and things to look at. If waiting rooms are hard, tell us when you book and we will bring you straight through.
4You meet your clinician
They will introduce themselves to you and to your child. They will not rush. If your child needs a few minutes, they get a few minutes.
5You go into the therapy room
It is a room with toys, a table and chairs. Parents are welcome to stay for a first session.
6The session begins with play
We start where your child is comfortable. The first session is mostly about them deciding we are safe to be around.
7We talk before you leave
You will hear what we noticed, what happens next and roughly how long things take. You can ask anything.
Sensory notes
Tell us in advance and we will adjust. Lights can be dimmed, waiting can be skipped, and your child can bring anything from home that helps.
Fluorescent overhead lighting can be turned off in most rooms
There is a quieter space away from the waiting area
Headphones, comfort objects and preferred snacks are always welcome
You may walk the building before the first appointment; just call ahead
